Establishing a physician connection with the VA is the next step to the adventure that seemed to be the most testing for my experience. I called it kicking the doors open for a reason. It may be easy for some not so much for me. It really is just a matter of making an appointment to see a doctor at the VA hospital for the initial visit. Once completed the visit opens the door of communication through the message center in the MyHealthNet on the VA website. Once a physician is established then access to the VA Pharmacy opens up which means seriously cheap medicine. Which if you’re in my age bracket Medicare plays into this. Not advising you to drop Medicare medicine plan, but, the medicine plan from the VA is REALLY CHEAP. Currently haven’t phased out my primary care physician through Blue Cross that decision is hanging in the when I retire Ill decide window. The VA Pharmacy had access to medicine I couldn’t get through my regular insurance. Access to medicine I needed not available in the civilian sector was the motivation to pick the VA apart. The VA Healthnet has many sections including: Appointments, messages, medications, medical records, payments and medical supplies. Payments is a two way street. This is where you will see the money the VA has sent you and also more importantly, what you owe the VA. If you get medicine from the VA they will expect payment. The online system is cumbersome. Might be easier to mail a check for some or pay in person.
